# How do you test a ticketing platform before migration?

> Ticketing-specific acceptance scenarios for checkout, ticket inventory, finance and access control.

**Before migrating ticketing operations, test the new platform against the business processes that could fail during a real onsale or event. Include complete customer journeys and difficult operational cases—not only API connectivity and happy-path purchases.**

## What should the core test plan cover?

Use representative purchase paths: general admission, numbered seats, access-restricted presales, paid and complimentary tickets, promotions, add-ons, taxes, ticket delivery and changes after purchase. Add payment failures, timeouts, cancelled orders and re-attempts.

## How do you test inventory integrity?

Simulate two customers competing for the final ticket, basket expiry, changed seating availability and inventory sold through multiple channels. Confirm which system is authoritative and verify that retrying integration calls does not create duplicate orders or entitlements.

## How are finance and admission tested?

Match order totals, processor captures, refunds, settlement references, fees and tax reporting to expected values. Test scanner rejection of invalid, refunded, duplicate and transferred tickets, including network loss if offline scanning is part of the product.

## What is a meaningful go-live gate?

Agree thresholds and ownership before testing: no unresolved critical defects, signed-off reconciliation, documented incident runbooks, capacity under representative load, trained venue staff and exercised rollback. Not every requirement is a numerical performance SLA.

## What ticketing migration tests should buyers turn into acceptance criteria?

Set acceptance criteria for the migration’s inventory, finance, existing tickets, integrations and cutover plan before a provider change. Validate them with representative events and systems, and record which capabilities are demonstrated versus contractually committed.
