# How do ticketing platforms support different languages and locales?

> Language, locale, currency, time-zone and content decisions for international ticket shops.

**A multilingual ticketing platform must localise the full purchasing and post-purchase journey, not just translate the event title.** Language affects instructions, accessibility and customer support; locale influences dates, numbers and formatting; currency and tax are separate commercial choices. These settings should not be confused.

## What has to be localised?

| Area | Common requirement |
| ------------------------ | --------------------------------------------------------- |
| **Event information** | Titles, descriptions, venue directions and policies |
| **Checkout** | Buttons, errors, mandatory disclosures and form labels |
| **Transaction messages** | Receipt, cancellation, transfer and entry instructions |
| **Dates and times** | Local event time, time zone and daylight-saving behaviour |
| **Price displays** | Locale-aware grouping, decimal format and currency symbol |
| **Customer service** | Help articles, refund policies and contact routes |

## Should language follow the browser automatically?

A browser-language hint can provide a reasonable default, but buyers should be able to choose another language explicitly. A traveller purchasing for an event abroad may prefer English even when the venue's local language is different. Preserve language choice through payment and confirmation rather than switching unexpectedly.

## How do you handle event time zones?

Store an unambiguous time-zone identifier and event-local time, rather than assuming the viewer's laptop time is the event time. Test daylight-saving transitions, midnight boundaries and rescheduled event notifications. A timestamp without a labelled zone can make a ticket unusable to the person travelling to the venue.

**Example:** A customer in Toronto buys a ticket for a Warsaw performance. The event confirmation should give the event's local date and time clearly, regardless of where the order was placed. The currency they pay in is a separate payment-setting decision.

## How should ticketing platforms implement multiple languages and locales?

Keep translatable content fields and interface strings separate from core transaction logic. Ensure each locale has a fallback strategy and a publication workflow for edited source copy. Nuweb publicly describes localised language for ticketshop and checkout journeys; buyers should verify which content fields and interface strings are configurable for their setup.

## What should QA test?

Use real translated samples, long-word layout, right-to-left needs where relevant, mobile screens, failed payments, ticket downloads, emails and assistive technology. Coordinate local-language consumer disclosure requirements with legal teams before release.
