**A ticket type describes the entitlement or customer category being sold, while a price band usually describes the pricing level attached to a seat, area or inventory group. They may combine to calculate the final ticket price, but they are not interchangeable.**

## What does a ticket type represent?

Typical ticket types include adult, child, concession, member, VIP and complimentary admission. Each may have eligibility requirements, purchase limits and different rules for transfer, refund or verification. A VIP ticket might also include an entitlement that a standard ticket does not.

A price band groups seats or admission areas into levels such as premium, standard and restricted view. A theatre could sell *concession* (ticket type) in *premium* (price band), subject to its concession policy. An event may also have prices differentiated by onsale phase or sales channel.

## How are prices calculated?

| Component | Example | Operating question |
| --------------- | -------------- | -------------------------------- |
| **Ticket type** | Concession | Who qualifies? |
| **Price band** | Balcony | Where can it be used? |
| **Sales rule** | Member presale | When can it be purchased? |
| **Fee or tax** | Service fee | What must be shown in the total? |

The final price may depend on the combined rules. Avoid treating every pricing change as a new ticket type; proliferating types can make reporting and customer service difficult.

## Why do eligibility rules matter?

A concession or member ticket is not protected simply because it has a different label. Systems may need a membership account, access code, customer group or post-purchase check. Eligibility controls also need an exception process for customer service and an accessible route for genuine purchasers.

## What should operators verify?

Test one eligible and one ineligible customer, mixed baskets, refunds, ticket transfers and reporting. Confirm that a report can distinguish ticket type from price band and that a seat's capacity is not counted twice when multiple customer types can buy it. This is the difference between a price list that looks tidy and one that remains reliable in operation.
