# How do you measure ticketing marketing attribution and return on ad spend?

> Learn to measure ticketing campaigns from click to purchase without confusing attributed sales with incremental value.

**Ticketing marketing attribution links campaign touchpoints with booking outcomes, while return on ad spend (ROAS) compares attributed revenue with advertising spend.** The basic calculation is attributed purchase revenue divided by ad spend, using consistent currencies and reporting periods.

## What should be measured?

For example, a campaign spending £2,000 and assigned £10,000 of ticket revenue has a reported 5× ROAS. That does not prove the campaign caused all £10,000 of sales. Some buyers may have purchased anyway, and results change with the attribution window and model.

## Which events and identifiers matter?

Measure campaign source/medium, landing page, event or performance viewed, checkout started, transaction completed and refunds where appropriate. Join data using consent-aware tracking and a stable transaction identifier. Include an event or product identifier and the relevant currency, because an operator may run several unrelated events at once.

Google Analytics 4 supports ecommerce events including `begin_checkout`, `purchase` and `refund`. These require deliberate implementation; checkout data is not guaranteed to flow automatically between an embedded booking journey and analytics tools.

## What distorts the results?

Cross-domain checkout journeys, payment redirects, blockers, consent choices, delayed purchases, shared devices and third-party marketplaces can break attribution. Duplicate purchase events can inflate revenue. Using ticket face value in one report and order total including fees in another creates false ROAS differences.

| ------------------------------- | ------------------------------------ | -------------------------- |
| **Platform-attributed revenue** | What a platform credits to ads | Incrementality |
| **Blended revenue/ad spend** | Overall efficiency | Which channel caused sales |
| **Conversion rate** | What proportion completed a purchase | Profitability |
| **Contribution after fees** | Approximate commercial return | Complete long-term value |

## How can ticketing marketers improve attribution confidence?

Use transaction-ID deduplication, reconcile purchase totals with order reports, monitor UTM consistency, document the attribution window and consider holdout or geo-based experiments where feasible. Report net revenue and margin assumptions separately from gross order value.

**Bottom line:** ROAS is a useful operating metric, but it needs transaction quality checks and careful interpretation.
