# How do you embed a ticketing seat map in an application?

> Understand seat-map integration, authoritative inventory, accessible selection and booking handoff within a custom ticketing experience.

**Embedding a ticketing seat map means placing interactive seat selection inside a website or app while keeping availability, pricing and reservations connected to the ticketing system.** The visual map is only one part of the integration: the difficult part is keeping the selected seats valid through checkout.

## What are the integration approaches?

A provider may offer a hosted seating page, an embedded component or an API for building a fully custom interface. A hosted or embedded component can reduce implementation effort but may limit styling and workflow control. A custom map gives more freedom over layout, accessibility and surrounding commerce, at the cost of additional engineering and testing.

## Which data and actions are needed?

The interface generally needs a venue/layout identifier, sections or seats with stable IDs, availability and price categories, accessible-seat metadata where supported, and an authoritative way to reserve a selection. When a customer selects two seats, **the seat identifiers—not their pixel coordinates—must reach the booking system**. An availability response is not necessarily a guarantee that those seats remain available.

| Moment | Recommended behaviour |
| ----------------------- | ---------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **Map opens** | Render venue layout; fetch current selectable inventory |
| **Seat selected** | Show price and restrictions; ask backend to hold where supported |
| **Reservation expires** | Remove stale selection and explain the next action |
| **Payment completes** | Confirm order state before issuing tickets |
| **Layout changes** | Keep stable mappings between seats, zones and event inventory |

## How do accessibility and mobile use change the design?

A map should not rely exclusively on colour, hover interactions or tiny tap targets. Offer keyboard support, text alternatives and a structured list or best-available path where feasible. Important seat details—restricted view, companion eligibility, access route—must be presented before purchase. On mobile, test zoom, overlays and seat selection with real devices.

## What should teams validate before launch?

Test adjacent seats, partial availability, price changes, simultaneous selection, stale cached data, hold expiry and reconciliation after payment. Confirm that the seating supplier and transaction supplier agree on which system is authoritative. A polished seat map that oversells is not a successful integration.
